What is inside an SRT file
An SRT file is plain text: numbered cues, each with a start and end time written as hours, minutes, seconds and milliseconds, followed by the words to show. It carries no fonts, colours or animation, which is why almost every player and editor can read it. EasyCap builds the cues from word-level timestamps, so each line starts when its first word is spoken.
How it works
- 1
Transcribe your video
Open the editor, choose an MP4, MOV or WebM file and pick the spoken language. Only the audio is sent for transcription; the video stays on your device.
- 2
Correct words and timing
Read along with playback. Fix names, numbers and mixed-language phrases, and drag a word on the timeline if it starts too early or too late.
- 3
Download the SRT
On a paid plan, download the subtitles as an SRT file, or as VTT if your destination prefers WebVTT. The free plan lets you try transcription and export a watermarked MP4.
Check the cue length
A cue that holds too many words leaves viewers reading while the speaker has moved on. Short groups of words, split at natural pauses, are easier to follow on a phone.
Keep the script consistent
For Hindi or Hinglish, decide on Devanagari or Roman script before you export and keep it the same across the file. Mixed scripts in one file read as mistakes.
Name the file for its destination
Some platforms read the language from the file name or ask you to pick it on upload. Check the destination's upload screen before renaming or uploading the file.
Find your language and your look
Explore Hindi captions, Hinglish captions, Bengali captions, or browse all supported caption languages. Choose from animated caption templates and check current plans and export options before starting a longer project.
Questions before you start
Is the SRT download free?
No. SRT and VTT downloads are part of the paid plans. The free plan lets you try transcription and export a captioned MP4 with a watermark.
Will my caption style be in the SRT file?
No. SRT holds only text and timing. To keep a font, colour or animation, export a captioned MP4 instead, where the captions are drawn into the video.
What is the difference between SRT and VTT?
Both hold timed text. VTT (WebVTT) starts with a WEBVTT header and writes milliseconds with a dot instead of a comma, and is common in web players. EasyCap exports both on paid plans.
Can I make an SRT file for a Hindi video?
Yes. Choose Hindi as the spoken language and pick Devanagari or Roman script before downloading. The same works for Hinglish and the other supported Indian languages.
